There was a record severn Truro fencers in the GB squad of twelve competing at the recent senior Györ World Cup In Hungary – Honeybone, Maxwell, Rogerson, Deary, Boteler, Howes & Craze. Honeybone got off to a flying start with 6 out of 6 wins in his poule and a well deserved bye to Day 2.

There were strong performances from Deary with a 15/14 win taking him into Day Two as well, eventually going out to Curatoli of Italy 9-15. James went on to defeat Laurence of France 15-8 to secure a L32 place and was unlucky to miss a L16 after a nail-biting 15-14 loss to Teodosiu – frustrating as it looked like a couple of head hits didn’t register.

Still, Honeybone has now progressed to 51 in the World and there were many positives to be taken from the squad’s performance.
